Life is a speeding train
December 29, 2013
What a rush! The excitement of life’s journey is almost too
much to comprehend. The older I get (and few are older than me than my brother
Glenn and my sister Betty) the more excited I get about this great journey we
all traverse. I ran into Milt Baker in Home Depot and he was busily purchasing
plumbing parts for a leaking toilet while I purchased electrical items for my
basement remodel. The sight of these old men gathering goodies to complete
construction projects must have been a real sight for the young and
unenlightened. To those of us who have experienced many decades of joy in
“doing”, work is part of the joy of life. I have seen many people give up on
life, stop trying to do things and simply fade into the background as if they
had never been here. For me, I choose to go on whacking at boards, installing
carpet, looking for bargains I can craft into my latest project, and generally
doing what I enjoy.
The parts of life
that really intrigue me; however, are the ones that we will take with us when
we move through the veil to our next destination. I find it exciting beyond
measure to try and understand the most simple of things that transpire
automatically. For example, why do our hearts keep beating and beating even
though we do nothing to make them do so? Why can we see stars that have long
since flickered out and are so very far away as to make the light source from
them appear in this part of the universe only eons after transmission? When we
transverse the veil, the shades will be lifted from our eyes and we will
exclaim, my what a work this is! So that is how it all fits together.
Then there are the wonderful gifts we see every day. I
marvel that my incredible bride of 48 years has seen me through this wonderful
epic. Man’s puny vision could not have crafted a more exciting, more fulfilling
epic than that which I have had the pleasure of living. You want the mysteries
of life? I’ll show you the mysteries of life. My children, my family, my
friends, my religious convictions, my Savior, my understanding of life eternal
are all part of the great eternal experiment God has provided for us. I never
cease to be amazed at the magnificently created plan. I watch my children grow
and learn; worry and fret; ponder and puzzle; joy and cherish and it simply
confirms my understandings of life.
All this just to tell you all that life is good; that we
have had a marvelous year; that Grandmother is completing her 21st
quilt for a grandchild turning eight and preparing for baptism; that we are
warm and comfortable and finding success in the little things in life. Our
desire is that each of you achieve the dreams of your heart, continue to ponder
and wonder, and enjoy each moment of the next year to the very best of your
ability.
God bless you all in your earthly work and
may you have a wonderful new year.
