Enslaving America Chapter 4 - Post traumatic Stress Disorder
September 29, 2013
Since the very beginnings of time, man has longed for
freedom. The very nature of the human race was carefully crafted by God. Satan
wanted us to forego freedom and follow him. God’s plan of eternal life is based
on our coming to earth, obtaining a body, being challenged to the depth of our
capacity; then returning and reporting from the book of our lives.
My personal belief is that each of has some misfiring going on
in our brain. Each of us treats our circumstances differently. Each of us has a
unique personality and brain activity which make us who we are. I believe it a
matter of degree and designation. We can each benefit from understanding others
and their trials, then applying what we have learned to our circumstances. This
note is in deep appreciation for those who have blessed my life by
understanding and then standing by my side as I have gone through my personal
traumas. It is also intended as a voice of encouragement for any and all who
find the difficulties of life overwhelming to them.
Many times in the process of living we find ourselves
involved in circumstances which cause us to feel inadequate, immobile, and
terrified. We all like names for things so someone came up with the name Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, one of the better monikers representing a
critical issue. Make no mistake; this is a very real crisis. It is bigger than
all the wonderful men and women who, for whatever reason, find themselves completely
transformed by this malady. In the book chapter on this issue several examples
of individuals with PTSD will be laid out and explored; however, for now we
will look at one generic composite briefly, then discuss some alternatives for
minimizing the resultant problems.
Wonderful young person is molested by a trusted loved one
early in life. Nothing is reported. Both the individual being molested and the
molester are plagued by the issue, but life goes on and nothing is ever said.
One or both take the issue deeply into their soul and make this issue the
center of their existence, harboring thoughts of being dirty, different, and
invisible. Life goes on and the trauma deepens creating a puss filled receptor
in the mind that creeps out and bites everything they try to do. Many times the
plot thickens when additional instances of deception are heaped upon the fire
of trauma, causing more fear, more self-doubt, and more issues of frustration
and self loathing. What to do?
Several treatments are used, the most frequent being
prescribed drugs and psychological therapy. These are both excellent if used
wisely. Unwisely used drugs can create addiction, erosion of trust, family
disillusion, and premature death. Wisely used drugs can relieve anxiety,
minimize fears, and make life much more comfortable and enjoyable. Likewise
with psychologists and therapy, some have extremely well honed practices which
work toward achieving positive life results, while others create even more
trauma and frustration in patients and families.
The medical soldiers in this battle have gone far and wide
to search out remedies and treatments. In short summary they have begun to look
at the entire person by seeking out vast arrays of alternative solutions which
can be helpful when used in conjunction with traditional medications and
treatments.
For those who are tried by PTSD and its evil cousins,
continue to seek out the very best in professional advice, love your family, do
your best to serve in whatever employment and other callings you have, and seek
out the blessings of God. For families of those so stricken, listen, love, and
learn all you can.
God bless each of us as we take on the challenges of life.
Duane Jacobs, Grandfather, father, brother, uncle, cousin,
and fond friend
