I would be honored to share what I know about the
“endowment” in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The temple is a
place in which wonderful covenants and promises are made. The endowment is just
that. It is a series of covenants and promises, very similar to the promises
you and I made when we entered the waters of baptism. We covenant and promise
to follow God’s commandments, love our fellow men, be chaste, consecrate our
lives and our talents to helping others, and other things that will bless our
lives.
The endowment is provided before missionaries leave on their
missions, before one is “sealed”, or married in the temple, and at other times
such as when one, in later life determines that they wish to share in the blessings
of the endowment. After your aunt is endowed, she will be able to attend the
temple on other occasions. We find participating in temple activities is a
spiritual uplift for us and provides opportunities to contemplate, pray, review
our life’s mission and move forward in our determination to become clean and
pure so when we return to heaven, we can receive the atonement and be truly
free from the sins of this world.
There is nothing secret, sinister, or evil in the temple.
You can get a full transcript from the Library of Congress, if you would like.
Thank you for asking. If you would like further clarification, I would be
honored to do so.
God bless you as you continue to serve Jesus Christ and love
your fellow men.
