Charles William “Bill”
Laing, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at the
home of his daughter, Rebecca Burrows, in Springville, Utah, after a
courageous battle with cancer. While saddened by his death, we are thrilled
by the example of his long and active life, filled with love for his Heavenly
Father and love and concern for others, especially for his beloved wife,
Grace. He was a devoted member of the LDS church and served faithfully in many
callings throughout his life, including bishop of the Long Beach 1st
Ward and high priests group leader several times, the latest being when he
was 94. He served a mission with his sweetheart in the Pennsylvania
Pittsburgh Mission in 1988–1989. Born May 11, 1916, in Eureka, Montana, to
John Andrew and Margaret Olive Colgrove Laing. Bill and Grace are the parents
of seven children: John (Sue), serving a mission in the Freiberg Germany
Temple; Lorenz (Crystal), Bountiful; Mark (Sylvia), Cody, Wyoming; Ronald
(Robyn), Fresno, California; Paul (Jill), Cedar Hills; Rebecca (Carl)
Burrows, Springville; and Daniel (Heidi), Orem. They have 40 grandchildren, 71
great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Bill found great pleasure
in his family, at all generational levels, and is much loved by his
posterity. He is survived by his wife, and two younger sisters: June Landess,
Casper, Wyoming; and Joyce Hinrichs, Ogden. Bill will be greatly missed by
all who knew him. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012,
at 10:00 a.m., at the Springville Utah Hobble Creek Stake Center, 495 South
Canyon Road, Springville. Friends may call on Sunday, August 19, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary,
495 South State Street, Orem, or at the church from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., just prior
to the funeral. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
